MEWA Reopens Rabigh Dam for 4 Days

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has declared reopening Rabigh Dam to drain nearly 5,000,000 cubic meters of water.
In a press release issued today, MEWA announced that: it opened the Dam gates on Tuesday, Jumada II 22, 1438H, at 10.00AM, and re-closed on Friday, Jumada II 25, 1438H, at 06.00PM.
Estimates indicate that the amount of water impounded by the Dam had been over 26,000,000 cubic meters before opening the Dam gates, and went down to about 21,000,000 cubic meters on re-closing the gates. The total quantity of drained water over the four days, as such, has amounted to 5,900,000 cubic meters.
The objective of opening the Dam gates on a regular basis, MEWA clarified, is to supply agricultural areas with the water impounded by the Kingdom's dams, totaling 394 dams.
It should be noted that Rabigh Valley Dam was inaugurated in 1430H. The dame is 380 meters long, and 80 meters in height.
