The Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture has organized today 1/17/2022 the Saudi-Japanese virtual Forum with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for Water Conservation, prevent leaks and water quality Improvement at agriculture and water sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

 The four-day forum attended by representative from the Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Commerce, the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), and specialized companies and investors in the field of water.

 In his remarkable speech, Dr.Abdulaziz Alshaibani Deputy Minister for Water, during the opening of the forum, briefly explained achievements of the Kingdom in the water sector and water challenges. He talked about efforts of Ministry of Environment Water and Agriculture and its partners to achieve the goals of the National Water Strategy 2030, which covers in its programs many aspects such as the institutional arrangements, promoting research and innovation and integrated water resources management.

 Dr. Alshaibani emphasized that the Saudi water sector has many institutional, technical, and financial means that lead to target sustainability of the water sector despite the kingdom being located in area of water scarcity. That said, the Kingdom is witnessing rapid technological advances in monitoring, control, information exchange, arrangements are currently in effect to speed up progress towards goals, as well as overcoming the challenges posed by economic and population growth. That necessitate infrastructure expansion.

"The Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030 focuses on innovation to enhance competitiveness by using technology in the areas of natural resources, agriculture, food security and health. All these sectors depend on economic competitiveness in the efficiency and quality of water supplies." Dr. Alshaibani added.

The Deputy Minister for Water concluded his speech by noting that continued Saudi-Japanese collaboration would development of supporting technology. This collaboration will lead to more effective irrigation practices, optimal use of water resources, as well as water demand management for all sectors. This will contribute to the fulfillment of the objectives of the Kingdom's 2030 Vision.
