“MEWA” Bans Import of Live Birds, Hatching Eggs, and Chicks from Malaysia

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture temporarily bans importing of live birds, hatching eggs and chicks from Malaysia.

General Director of the Department of Animal Risk Assessment at the ministry D. Sanad AlHarbi stated that the ban was issued in accordance with the warning released by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) on the appearance of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Malaysia. The ban was imposed for controlling the spread of such disease, and for the public interest.

The General Director of the General Department for Quarantines D. Osama AlSaleh clarified that the decision on the import ban has been circulated over all quarantines for the application of protective measures.
