The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has revealed that the total number of laboratory tests conducted by the ministry's veterinary laboratories by the end of the third quarter of 2018 has reached 239,236.
The Director General of the General Department of Laboratories at the Ministry, Mohammed AlFuhaid, said that these tests included diagnostic tests, quality tests, examination of animal and plant consignments and examination of diseases of the comprehensive field investigation campaign.
"The number of diagnostic tests carried out by the end of the third quarter of this year 2018 have reached 85,538, while the quality tests for the same period have reached 16,366.", AlFuhaid said.
AlFuhaid added that the animal and plant shipments examinations have reached 170, 105and 653 tests, respectively, in addition to 31,509 tests for the diseases of the comprehensive field investigation campaign.
AlFuhaid has also revealed the volume of production of the veterinary vaccines produced by the ministry which has reached 88,283,400 doses, including 27,533,400 doses of viral vaccines and 60,750,000 doses of bacterial vaccines.
It is worth mentioning that the General Department of Laboratories was established in 1424H with the objective of developing livestock resources, addressing epidemic diseases that threaten livestock and zoonotic diseases that could threaten human health. Furthermore, The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture continues to support laboratories by providing highly qualified cadres of laboratory specialists and equipping laboratories with sophisticated laboratory equipment and instruments.
