The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture has confiscated fish of unknown origin, fish and shrimp which are deemed unfit for human consumption, and fish for illegal fraud and inappropriate storage cases.
The Director of the Ministry's branch in the Eastern Region, Eng. Amer AlMutairi, said that the inspection campaign was carried out in coordination with the Fisheries Research Center in Al-Qatif, the Ministry of Commerce, the Central Dammam Municipality, the Al-Qatif Municipality, the Saudi Aquaculture Society, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and the Qatif Police.
280 kg of shrimp, 231 kg of tilapia fish, 104 kg of fish fillet and 120 kg of fish have been destroyed, the Ministry said.
The Ministry confirmed that it will intensify these inspection campaigns at fish markets across the Kingdom, especially eastern region markets.
The Ministry also called on investors to abide by the Saudi laws and restrictions.
