The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has called on pilgrims performing Hajj 1447 AH (2026) to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable practices to help preserve natural resources and support water and food security.
The Ministry emphasized that responsible behavior in the Holy Sites is an Islamic duty, urging pilgrims to minimize their environmental impact during the Hajj season. Pilgrims were advised to dispose of waste only in designated areas, protect vegetation, and avoid harming wildlife and birds in and around the holy sites.
MEWA also encouraged the use of sustainable ihram and designated shaving areas to help reduce environmental pollution during the pilgrimage. Water conservation was highlighted as a key priority, with pilgrims urged to avoid excessive water use during ablution, ensure taps are properly closed after use, and minimize water waste while drinking. The ministry further recommended the use of recyclable and environmentally friendly water containers.
The ministry said these practices contribute to protecting natural resources for future generations, enhancing environmental sustainability, and promoting shared responsibility in maintaining the cleanliness of the holy sites during Hajj.
