His Excellency Eng. Mansour AlMushaiti, Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, chaired a meeting of the Ministry's branch directors across Saudi Arabia's regions, addressing several topics related to improving branch performance, strengthening integration among the Ministry's sectors, and following up on the implementation of initiatives and programs that contribute to achieving the Ministry's objectives.
The meeting reviewed the progress of work at the Ministry's branches and the efforts made to develop services provided to beneficiaries and enhance operational efficiency, alongside discussing a number of topics related to the branches work and their role in implementing the Ministry's programs and initiatives across the Kingdom.
On the sidelines of the meeting, His Excellency the Vice Minister witnessed the signing of five agreements between the Ministry and five specialized civil society associations to implement the initiative for empowering non-profit organizations in food conservation. The agreements aim to make use of surplus fruits and vegetables in public benefit markets supervised by the National Company for Agriculture Services in several regions of the Kingdom, and to deliver them to beneficiaries through the participating associations.
These agreements come within the framework of the Ministry's efforts to achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to empower specialized non-profit sector organizations, enhance their contribution to social and economic impact, and benefit from their expertise in food conservation, helping preserve food products, make optimal use of them, and meet beneficiaries needs.
The initiative reflects integration among the Ministry's sectors, represented by the National Company of Agriculture Services and the General Administration of Non-Profit Sector Organizations, to support civil society associations and enable reducing food loss and waste and strengthening food security.
The initiative aims to convert surplus fruits and vegetables in public benefit markets into social and nutritional value that benefits members of the community.
Through this initiative, the Ministry seeks to expand the implementation of initiatives across all public benefit markets under its supervision across the Kingdom's regions, leveraging the expertise of qualified and specialized non-profit civil society associations in food conservation and empowering them to undertake their technical activities.
