The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) has urged pet owners and those responsible for their care to take the necessary precautions to protect animals from extreme summer temperatures.
The ministry recommended that owners ensure pets have continuous access to food and water, provide suitable shelters and well-ventilated enclosures, keep vaccinations up to date, and avoid exposing animals to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.
MEWA called on owners to comply with animal welfare standards and take all necessary measures to prevent animals from suffering heat-related stress or harm. The ministry said these measures are in line with the GCC Animal Welfare Law, which promotes the humane treatment and protection of animals.
The ministry emphasized that animal welfare is both a religious and ethical responsibility and plays a vital role in safeguarding livestock health and improving productivity. It added that proper care during periods of extreme heat helps protect animals while reducing the risks associated with high summer temperatures.
