Saudi markets are currently witnessing a significant influx of diverse local fruit harvests, coinciding with the summer production season. Demand is rising for many locally grown fruits known for their high quality and nutritional value, making them a preferred choice among consumers and highlighting the diversity and excellence of the Kingdom's agricultural produce.
The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture stated, as part of its Summer Campaign launched to raise awareness about seasonal fruits and enhance the marketing efficiency of national agricultural products during peak harvest periods, that figs are among the Kingdom's promising local crops. Total fig production exceeds 29,600 tons, contributing to greater self-sufficiency and strengthening food security.
The ministry noted that figs are highly valued for their rich nutritional content, including a variety of vitamins and minerals, which has increased consumer demand. It added that Saudi Arabia is home to more than 565,600 productive fig trees, with fig cultivation taking place across all regions of the Kingdom.
The Summer Campaign aims to promote awareness of the wide range of locally produced fruits and their seasonal availability throughout the year. It seeks to encourage the consumption of national products, improve quality and safety standards, educate consumers about seasonal fruit options, and enhance the efficiency of marketing locally produced fruits during harvest seasons. The initiative also supports local farmers by helping increase their investment returns and financial income.
