PalmOptical is an innovative technological solution aimed at the early detection of Red Palm Weevil infestations. The system utilizes a fiber-optic–based alert network combined with sensing technologies, machine learning, and geolocation to accurately diagnose palm trees and detect potential infestations at an early stage.

Date Palm Scale Insect

Symptoms:

Cracked, scale-like patches and dark swelling on the trunk, indicating weakness and slow growth. In severe cases, the pest reduces leaf growth but does not kill the tree.

Treatment:

Remove heavily infested fronds, apply mineral oils, use preventive sprays, and treat with Carboi 55, Hostapon, or Fashion.

Note:

Hostapon costs approximately 30 SAR. Treatment requires a prescription from an agricultural expert
